Bioenergy has been criticized as interfering with food
production, the so-called food versus fuel argument.
1-5 Furthermore, according to the indirect landuse
change (iLUC) theory, bioenergy must be held responsible
for the greenhouse gases (GHGs) that are emitted when
additional agricultural feedstocks are produced to replace
feedstocks used for bioenergy production.
