We advocate for renewable gas (biomethane) on behalf of our members

Our voice is strong, founded on a mandate from our members, and engagement, collaboration and shared expertise across our membership and our networks.

RGFI advises government and decision makers, on a consultative and constructive basis. Together, we aim to establish suitable market conditions to enable the growth of an indigenous, biomethane industry, which will also bring complementary benefits, aligned to the European Green Deal.

We foster knowledge transfer in a dynamic environment

Our network of international contacts and collaborations positions us to assess and disseminate information from the cutting edge of developments across Europe and the rest of the world, to Ireland’s benefit. This includes:

We lead and develop strategic initiatives and market research, to inform and support the industry

RGFI provided Government with an initial draft Charter for the Biomethane Industry in Ireland to ensure the highest possible environmental standards are maintained in development and operation of biomethane plants, and has since worked with Government on its development.

We have already stimulated regional development by co-ordinating the business case for biomethane production in a farming cluster approach, in conjunction with Dairygold and Danone in Munster.

We support our members and respond to their needs

The Green Gas Certification Scheme

RGFI worked collaboratively with industry partners to develop the Irish Green Gas Certification Scheme . The Scheme provides certainty to end users with respect to the quality and sustainability of the gas they purchase and provides transparency for policy makers and stakeholders. The Scheme complies with EU and national legislation and will be central to supporting an “at scale” renewable gas industry in Ireland.
